HABBA: kannada term to denote a festival, celebration or event.
A series of pre-conference events are planned in the hands-on workshop/exhibition format, open calls for publication to be conducted across the city/region with multiple stakeholders such as NGOs, Public bodies, Institutions, etc., to both spread awareness of the profession of landscape and the organization itself. Each habba shall be based on the topic of the conference - Water and Society - and the events conducted as part of the habba shall be organized to address the three thematics to better inform the main conference event.

THESIS OPEN DAY v2.0
12th September 2016
The ISOLA Thesis Open Day, in collaboration with the INDIA INSTITUTE OF HUMAN SETTLEMENTS (IIHS), was held in Bangalore on the 20th of August 2016. It was the second such event hosted by the ISOLA Bangalore Chapter, following its lasts year’s event, to nurture and discuss on the ideas of the landscape profession through academic cases. This year the notion of the event was conceptually expanded, allowing students from both undergraduate and post graduate courses to submit their thesis cases that intersected with the landscape profession at large. A two-stage selection process witnessed a fairly inter disciplinary collaboration of projects being submitted for the event, from which a total of 14 (Fourteen) cases were selected for the event.

The ISOLA Bangalore Chapter has organized aa public exhibition WATER and SOCIETY - the student interface in the city between the 21st - 23rd of January 2016. The exhibition is a collection of students’ works and their perspectives on the theme of the 11th ISOLA Annual Conference - Water and Society – expanding the blue revolution. The exhibition is an eclectic mix of ideas, strategies, visions, narratives as well as analytics of the notion of water and its correlation and interface with the urban and the society at large. The public exhibition is organized at the Vismaya Hall, Rangoli Metro Art Centre, MG Road, Bangalore. The exhibiton is organized in collaboration with BMSCE, Bangalore; MSRIT, Bangalore, UVCE, Bangalore, RVCA, Bangalore, the LANDSCAPE FOUNDATION of INDIA and LA Journal of Landscape Architecture.

ISOLA Bangalore chapter welcomes delegates to the annual conference at JW Marriott, on 22nd and 23rd January, 2016. Popularly known as the 'Garden City', Bangalore is endowed with sprawling lakes and a colonial legacy of two large parks, Lal Bagh and Cubbon Park. It is our endeavour to provide our delegates from across the country an experience of the city through our specially designed walks. The walks are intended to explore and experience these spaces which have defined the landscape and character of the city. n this years annual conference , a total number of three (3nos) walks have been organized for the delgates on Saturday 23rd January 2016 0630hrs onwards.More details below. Delegates are welcome to choose from one of the following walks. Since each walk is limited to a maximum of 30 participants, interested delegates are requested to register below for the preferred walks. Detailed specifications of each walk including coordinator contacts and logistics shall be shared post the registration.

On behalf of ISOLA Bangalore Chapter, we are pleased to announce that this year we have had a great response towards the Call for Panorama. This years we have received an eclectic mix of formats of submission ranging from poetry, collages. photography,caricature videography among others. The entries submitted for Panorama have been structured to document, illustrate and express various facets of water. The focus is on the role of water in shaping varied landscapes, settlements and societies, bringing together personal experiences, associations or observations that relate water within its traditional framework as well as contemporary scenarios. The following are the lists of entries towards the Call for Panorama .A total no.of 30(thirty) abstracts have been selected.

BLUE RHYMES EXHIBITION
NOVEMBER 22,2015
LA Journal is curating an exhibition on the occasion of the Annual conference of Indian Society of Landscape Architects scheduled to be held at Bangalore on 22- 23 January 2016. BLUE RHYMES looks at built and unbuilt contexts, narratives from the past and present, examples in practice and academics and traditional practices from Indian subcontinent that have shown diverse thinking and values in maintaining an evolved and symbiotic relationship with water. Touching upon the examples of use of water in traditional settlements and heritage precincts, showcasing water eco zones, outlining the relationship that the natural resource has shared with the community in regional harvesting systems and in few of the architectural expressions like stepwells and linking the theme with the present day spatial design paradigm, the exhibition tries to bring together varied perspectives of looking at the idea in the realm of nature and culture.
The layout and the content design of the exhbition is being designed in collaboration with SRISHTI Schoolof Art,Design and Technology, Bangalore. The exhiiton shall open to public for both days of the conference. More details to follow soon

On behalf of ISOLA Bangalore Chapter, we are pleased to announce that the abstract review of the process for the ISOLA Call for Papers, has now concluded. A three-member, double-blind, peer review process has been used to evaluate every abstract received to ensure an objective and non-partisan selection. The following are the lists of abstracts that have been selcted by the Peer Review Committe. A total no.of 24(twenty four) abstracts have been selected.

NOVEMBER 14 2015
ISOLA Bangalore Chapter is pleased to announce its upcoming habba "EXPERTS PERSPECTIVE” scheduled for 22 November 2015 @IIHS. The talk is intended to give the students, academicians and professionals in the field of Landscape Architecture an exposure to the integrated approach that is required to control the “Unplanned and Uncontrolled Urbanisation of the city of Bangalore”. The rapid urbanisation has posed serious problems to land, water, air and environment. The talk shall by the conducted by Dr. T.V.Ramachandra of Centre for Ecological Sciences, IISC, and Ms. Hita Unnikrishnan of ATREE, over a 2 (two) hour session with a moderated discussion at the end of the lecture. The target audience for the habba shall primarily be the student fraternity from undergraduate and graduate level, as well as the professional community to interact with the experts to discuss and deliberate on the issue.

OCTOBER 12 ,2015
“Professionals Speak”- a platform where landscape architecture professionals of the city discussed the profession through key lenses of the discipline, was the second habba, that ISOLA Bangalore Chapter hosted to in an effort engage the discipline in varied capacities with the public. The event hosted in collaboration with the BMS College of Engineering, Basavangudi was targeted to provide students an overview of the landscape architecture discipline through professional works undertaken at various scales and geographies. The habba was structured to discuss on a broader understanding of the Landscape Architecture in the realm of 1. Landscape and Ecology; 2. Urban Landscapes and 3. Landscape Engineering.

The Thesis Open Day organized by the ISOLA (Indian Society of Landscape Architects) Bangalore Chapter at the IIHS (Indian Institute of Human Settlements), Bangalore was the first of the several Habbas (kannada term for events), that ISOLA Bangalore Chapter is hosting to engage the discipline in varied capacities with the public, as a lead up to the annual conference scheduled for January 2016.
The Thesis Open Day was primarily created as a platform for selected recently graduated students of Landscape Architecture discipline to present their thesis cases in order to give an overview of the scales, issues and methodologies that governs the academic groundwork for the Landscape Architecture profession

DESIGN WORKSHOP

ISOLA Bangalore Chapter is collaborating with architectural institutions in the Southern region to conduct as design workshop in accordance with the theme of the conference with undergraduate students in close participation with experienced professionals of the landscape discipline. The primary intent of the workshop is to help help broaden the disciplinary framework of Landscape Architecture and build capacity of the profession among the students. The activity is specifically meant to bridge the disconnect between landscape professionals, students and society. More updates to follow shortly.
